It's also a site that rewards divers who slow down: shrimps and nudibranchs share the same modest wrecks that host all that open-water action, so there's always something to find at every scale. Los Gemelos (the Twin Wrecks) are two small vessels resting together at around 20 metres off Puerto Colón, intentionally sunk in the late 1990s to create an artificial reef for divers and tourist submarine excursions. A 12-metre recreational fishing boat and a 15-metre steel yacht lie close enough together to explore both in a single dive, and despite their modest size, they've grown into one of the liveliest dive sites on this stretch of coast. THE STORY ## The story of Los Gemelos The two vessels were sunk intentionally off Puerto Colón in the late 1990s to create an artificial reef for tourist submarine excursions and recreational scuba divers. Despite their relatively modest size, Los Gemelos now attract an abundance of marine life. MARINE LIFE ## Marine life you might see Tuna & Amberjack YEAR-ROUND Hunt around the baitfish schools that gather near the wrecks. Rays YEAR-ROUND A regular sight cruising the sandy area surrounding both wrecks. Shrimps & Nudibranchs YEAR-ROUND Macro life inhabiting the wreck structures despite their modest size. CONDITIONS & SUITABILITY Visibility Typically 15-25 metres. Current Usually mild. Temperature Approx. 18°C in winter to 24°C in summer. Best season Year-round. Exposure protection 5 mm is comfortable for most divers year-round. PERFECT FOR Advanced-level divers looking for two wrecks and lively open-water action in one dive.
