Theory & Navigation Briefing

Your day starts with the navigation theory, learning how to use an underwater compass, how to navigate using natural references like sand ripples, rock formations and coral, how to estimate distance underwater and how to use basic navigation patterns like squares, triangles and reciprocal headings. Short, focused and immediately life-changing for your diving.

2 Ocean Dives. Navigation in Practice

Your navigation dive puts everything straight into practice in Tenerife's crystal clear Atlantic waters. Armed with your compass you will navigate underwater courses, find your way back to the starting point and use natural references to explore the dive site with complete confidence. By the end of the dive you will never feel lost underwater again, a skill that will make every future dive more relaxed, enjoyable and safe.

What certification do I need?

A valid SSI Open Water Diver certification. Minimum age is 10.

Is this course required for Divemaster?

Yes, Navigation is a mandatory prerequisite for the SSI Divemaster and Dive Guide certifications.

What equipment do I need?

All scuba equipment is included. You'll also need an underwater compass, we can provide one if needed.

Can I combine this with other courses?

Yes, it combines perfectly with Night Diving, Deep Diver, Perfect Buoyancy or Wreck Diving.

How difficult is underwater navigation?

It feels tricky at first but becomes intuitive quickly with the right technique, and improves with every dive.

Can I fly after?

Wait at least 18 to 24 hours after your last dive before flying home.
