What to expect
SSI Night & Limited Visibility specialty course dive torch, equipment used by Barbarian Diving for night diving training in Tenerife.
Day 1. Theory & Night Dive Preparation

Your first day starts with the night diving theory, learning how to plan a night dive, what specialised equipment you need, how to communicate with your buddy in the dark and how to handle potential problems underwater at night. In the evening you head out for your first night dive in Tenerife's Atlantic Ocean, torches on, nerves gone, pure magic.

Day 2. Second Night Dive & Certification

Your second night dive brings everything together. By now you know what to expect and can fully relax and enjoy the experience, spotting octopus hunting, moray eels on the move, sleeping fish and bioluminescent plankton lighting up the water around you. By the end of Day 2 you will hold your SSI Night Diving and Limited Visibility Specialty certification, valid for life anywhere in the world.

Frequently asked questions
Is night diving scary?

It's natural to feel a little nervous beforehand, but within minutes the nerves are replaced by wonder, with your instructor right by your side.

What certification do I need?

A valid SSI Open Water Diver certification. Minimum age is 10.

What equipment do I need?

Nothing, all equipment including torches and locator lights is included.

What marine life will I see?

Octopus actively hunting, moray eels on patrol, sleeping fish, spider crabs, lobsters and sometimes bioluminescent plankton.

How deep will I dive?

Typically 8 to 12 metres, where marine life is most active after dark.

What happens if sea conditions aren't suitable?

We reschedule or move to an alternative sheltered site.

Can I fly after?

Wait at least 18 to 24 hours after your last dive before flying home.
